iConstruct 2014 New Release with CostX Export Feature
Exactal is pleased to announce that, as a result of CostX®’s use around the world, the latest release of iConstruct, a Navisworks plug-in tool used by many construction companies, will have a new feature which allows a simple and easy export of CostX®-idealised DWFx files and IFC files.
iConstruct is a powerful information management tool which means design and construction information can be integrated into a single 3D model displayed in Navisworks. It enables the vast array of information stored in the latest generation of BIM models to be extracted, organized and used in an efficient and logical way. This is a great tool in today’s construction market; often BIM can have a lot of excess information which drives a model’s MB to excessive proportions, making it difficult to work with.
As CostX® use is now becoming more and more prevalent in the construction industry, it has become a necessity for products to ensure their compatibility with CostX®. As such, iConstruct 2014 contains a new Smart DWFx export feature, which simplifies the existing export to DWFx by stripping out unrequired data on the way. The use of the Integrator and Reconstruct functions prior to exporting to DWFx streamlines a user’s workflow into CostX® by reorganizing the models to a more usable format and ensures seamless integration.
Furthermore, iConstruct 2014 also has a Smart IFC Convertor, which works the same way in cutting down excess data, and then exporting the file as an IFC to ensure ease of import into CostX®. Now, Navisworks users can easily use iConstruct 2014 to create a simplified DWFx file or IFC file for easy use in CostX®, creating a more streamlined construction chain overall and allowing for better collaboration amongst teams.
Mark Kefford, Exactal’s CEO, states, “Exactal welcomes companies like iConstruct providing compatibility with CostX® and has worked with them to ensure their new Smart DWFx export and Smart IFC Convertor features fully support CostX®’s innovative 3D take-off capabilities. The features available in iConstruct 2014 will mean it is even easier to use Navisworks models in CostX® than ever before”.
Shawn Weir, Managing Director at iConstruct, added “We are excited by the release of the Smart DWFx and IFC exporters and the enhanced capability this provides our clients. We have responded to market feedback relating to issues with the existing tools available in addition to an inconsistent model structures and data when integrating with CostX®. iConstruct and CostX® have worked hand-in-hand with our clients to provide a more accurate and efficient information workflow.”
The new export feature is benefiting CostX® clients already. Bob McCallum, Managing Director of Aquenta Consulting commented: “We work closely with client teams to define their information requirements and manage the information model. iConstruct’s Smart DWFx Exporter and Integrator function removes excess information and simplifies the information model to improve the speed and efficiency of quantification within CostX®. This provides an accurate and efficient outcome for our clients.”
